Average weekly working hours in Ireland dropped by 6.5% from 2019 to 2024, a recent labour market analysis from the Central Bank has found. The reduction is largely attributed to fathers with young children taking more leave, while mothers with older children have, in contrast, increased the number of hours they work on average.

Peter Cosgrove, Managing Director of Futurewise, alongside Jennifer Keane, founder of paygap.ie, join The Last Word to explore the changing dynamics of household labour and to examine whether people are, in reality, working fewer hours overall.
